The division of a line with two end points is called a line segment. Line segment YZ which we denoted by the symbol `bar(YZ)` .

**Note:** We shell denote a line segment `bar(YZ)` by YZ only.

From the above figure, we call it a line segment YZ. The points Y and Z are called end-points of the line segment YZ.

We can also name it as line segment YZ.

**A line segments:**

(a) A line segment has a definite length.

(b) A line segment has two end-points

## Example 1: Line Segments in a Rectangle.

Find the line segments of the given diagram. The diagram shown below,

Rectangle IJKL.

**To find the line segments in a rectangle:**

We know that the line segments are consisting of two end points. Here, the rectangle has four end points, such as I, J, K, and L. In the given diagram, the four end points to form the line segments on a rectangle by connecting these end points consecutively, such line segments are IJ, JK, KL, and LI. These line segments are represented by `bar(IJ)` , `bar(JK)` , `bar(KL)` , and `bar(LI)` . Therefore, the given diagram rectangle has four line segments.

## Example 2: Line Segments in a Rectangle.

Find the line segments of the given diagram. The diagram shown below,

Given:

Rectangular EFGHIJKL.

**To find the line segments in a rectangle:**

We know that the line segments are consisting of two end points. Here, the rectangular has 6 rectangle face, each rectangle has four end points. Generally the rectangular has eight end points, such as E, F, G, H, I, J, K, and L. In the given rectangular, the eight end points to form the line segments in a rectangular (eight rectangle) by connecting these end points as shown in above figure, such line segments are EF, EG, EL, FH, FI, GH, GK, HJ, IL, IJ, JK, and KL. These line segments are represented by `bar(EF)` , `bar(EG)` , `bar(EL)` , `bar(FH)` , `bar(FI)` , `bar(GH)` , `bar(GK)` , `bar(HJ)` , `bar(IL)` , `bar(IJ)` ,`bar(JK)` , and `bar(KL)` . . Therefore, the given diagram of rectangular has 12 line segments.
